The sinking dirt under an unopened portion of Illinois 255 may be remedied in a couple of months.  Last September cracks began forming in the pavement near Seminary Road, preventing the stretch to Humbert Road from opening around last Thanksgiving, as originally planned.   Engineers recently decided the earth that had been used to raise the elevation of the road would be peeled away in an attempt to address the sinking.

IDOT Engineer Joe Gasaway says crews have been tearing up the pavement and re-contouring the topography.

Gasaway comments

Work began just after July 4.  Traffic on 255 will continue to exit at Seminary until the final leg of the project is done.
