Are the area's first responders ready to spring into action if a large-scale disaster were to hit?  Making sure the answer is yes is the goal of a large-scale training session next week that will involve personnel from the Madison County Emergency Management Agency and the Edwardsville Region IV Medical Group which includes hospitals in Madison, St. Clair, Jersey, Greene, Fayette, Bond, Randolph, Clinton and Macoupin Counties.

The disaster will be a simulated passenger train derailment, according to Madison County Emergency Management Agency Deputy Director Mary Kate Malone.

The exercise, which will take place on December 10, will test the ability to mass transport victims from an accident scene and then test each hospital’s ability to take on a surge of patients and test the abilities of their Emergency Rooms.
