All Madison County election results will be made official with the election canvass expected to be wrapped up by the end of the business day Tuesday. This may be the end of what has been a hotly-contested race for Alton Mayor, or possibly just the next chapter, as candidates have a 5-day window of opportunity to file for a recount following the publication of final results.
Madison County Clerk Debbie Ming-Mendoza:
Following Election Night, Ming - Mendoza says the vote totals for Walker and Hoechst appear to fall within the parameters that a recount would be possible, if the Hoechst campaign would decide to pursue that avenue. According to numbers from the clerk's office, Walker has 1,853 votes, with incumbent Tom Hoechst pulling in 1,779. Another write-in candidate, Jackie Morris, had 13 votes.
