The Madison County Sheriff’s Department arrested an East Alton man who was allegedly stealing from elderly residents who hired him to do work around their property. 21-year-old John Nowlin of the 300 block of North Center Street is charged with two felony counts of residential burglary.
Authorities say a resident of Rosewood Heights called them on July 29 concerning a theft from her home. The victim told police Nowlin had come to her door looking to do work around her yard in exchange for money. She agreed, but told police she noticed money was missing from inside her home. Detectives say they believe Nowlin had been stealing from the victim on several occasions since June, and also tied him to at least one other theft in the area. Police say there could be additional victims, as Nowlin was believed to have been going around Rosewood Heights looking to perform work for residents. He is being held in the Madison County Jail, and police say if you believe you were a victim of theft in this case, to contact the department at 692-4433.
