A Bethalto man could face several decades in prison after pleading guilty to sexually abusing eight minors over three years, while at the same time working as a teacher. 38 year old Jason Ehlers entered the plea in December in Madison County Court and his sentencing hearing will begin starting Wednesday.
Ehlers is a former teacher in the Triad and Bethalto School Districts, but police have confirmed that none of the victims were current or former students. He has since resigned his position in the Triad School District. Prosecutors said information about the victims would not be released to protect their privacy. Ehlers will be sentenced on Wednesday for one count of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, a count of criminal sexual assault, 3 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse and 3 counts of sexual exploitation of a child. He remains held in the Madison County Jail on a half-million dollar bond. The sentencing hearing begins at 9:00am Wednesday in Madison County Court with Associate Judge Neil Schroeder.
