As the heat wave continues many residents have increased their use of water and at least one Riverbend municipality has taken notice. The city of Edwardsville recognizes the increased demand for water and has enacted a phase 2 water conservation order to lessen the strain on the city's treatment plant and distribution system.

The ordinance bans all outdoor watering between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. and will affect residents in the city of Edwardsville, the village of Glen Carbon, and the Northeast Central Public Water District, but will not affect commercial businesses such as car washes, laundromats or plant nurseries. It will remain in effect until further notice.
