If the success of a local rail company is any indication, and one of the owners of the company thinks it may be, the economy may be getting ready to right itself. The Illini Terminal Railroad System in Litchfield is a short line rail system that services the industrial park in that central-Illinois town, and is seeing an increase ion business that some experts says signals the days of more consumer demand are just around the corner.
The Illini Terminal Railroad System is a joint partnership with Terry Respondek, Dale Jenkins and Judy Jenkins, and a subsidiary of Boonville, Indiana-based Respondek Railroad Corporation. Respondek explains how it works.
The company pays homage both visually and in name to a former rail line that was familiar toAltonresidents for decades. The Illinois Terminal Railroad was purchased by Norfolk & Western in 1982, but the smaller, new version of the company came back to life on November 1 when the Illini Terminal Railroad System began operations.
