Many states have an “Eat Local Day”or similar local business initiative. Here in Illinois, State Rep. Sam Yingling (D-Round Lake Beach) wants to put into law that the first Saturday of each month be designated as “Eat Local, Buy Illinois Products Day.” "This bill shows support for those farmers growing produce in our state, grocers who choose to sell locally grown food and consumers who make the conscientious decision to purchase Illinois products,” Yingling said.

Yingling says this effort will also grow the state’s economy. “It is estimated that if every household committed just $10 a week to buy Illinois-grown products, it would generate approximately $2.4 billion in additional economic growth,” Yingling said.
