An East Alton couple is behind bars today after allegedly scamming an elderly East Alton woman out of more than $1,000. That money was paid to Robert Gayan, to cover the costs of repairs to the victim's home that turned out to be unnecessary. The victim alleges that Gayan showed her pictures of other homes to convince her she needed to make the repairs.
After the victim shard her suspicions about the repairs with police, Gayan and his wife, Julia, were taken into custody. Both have been charged with aggravated home repair fraud and are being held on $250,000 bond.
