courtesy East AltonThe East Alton Village Board is back to full strength with the appointment of a new trustee at last night’s meeting.  Former Public Works Director Dennis Weber was sworn in to take the seat of Joe Silkwood, who was picked to replace former Mayor Fred Bright who retired in late May.

Since Bright’s retirement, a number of city jobs have changed hands.  Silkwood is the village’s former treasurer, but stepped down to run for Trustee earlier this year.  Fire Chief Randy Nelson was appointed Village Treasurer in May and tendered his resignation last night.  Taking his place as chief will be Captain Rodney Palmer, a 25-year veteran of the department.  The position of Public Works Director will not be filled in an effort to cut spending by attrition.  That job will be done by a combination of three village officials, including Silkwood.
