Early voting for the consolidated election is underway in Madison County.  Monday was the first day that the county’s registered voters could travel to one of the nine early voting locations and submit their ballot. Madison County Clerk Debbie Mendoza tells The Big Z that her office has registered 1,200 new voters since January but that it doesn’t necessarily mean there will be a large turnout at the polls.

Mendoza says the fact that consolidated elections aren’t as glamorous as those including federal offices is one of the big factors that keeps voters away from the polls this time of year. Early voting runs through April 4 at polling locations in the Riverbend in Alton, Bethalto, Godfrey and Wood River.
