Educational programs for kids under the age of 4 are getting a boost in funding. The law signed by Gov. Pat Quinn will increase the percentage of the funds distributed by the state through the Early Childhood Education Block Grant program that must be used on programs for those younger children. Quinn believes the state will one day reap the benefits of making a bigger investment in early education now.

“All these skills are life skills that last a lifetime,” Quinn said.

In the current fiscal year, 11 percent of funds in the program are dedicated for children younger than 4.  With the new law, their share will increase to 20 percent by 2016.
