The wind was such a big problem on Sunday near Carlinville, Illinois Route 108 was closed for a time due to a dust storm.  The high wind and dry field conditions resulted in nearly zero visibility and treacherous traveling conditions.  Illinois State Police report one motorist off the road and a trooper was rear ended by another motorist.

ISP in District 18 based out of Litchfield reported just after 1pm Sunday the rare dust storm caused nearly impossible driving conditions in central Macoupin County.  A trooper responding to the motorist off the road was struck from behind from another driver who apparently could not see anything in front of him.  The trooper was taken to Staunton Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.   Route 108 was closed until the wind subsided.
