U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) has his nose in several Democratic primaries for Congress. Five candidates are Durbin-endorsed:
Maj. Tammy Duckworth, in the Eighth District in the Schaumburg area. Duckworth lost a race for Congress in 2006.
Ex-Rep. Bill Foster in the Aurora-area 11th District.
Brad Harriman in the 12th District in Southern Illinois. This is an open-seat race: U.S. Rep. Jerry Costello (D-Belleville) is not seeking re-election.
Greene County State’s Attorney Matt Goetten in the 13th District in Central Illinois.
Cheri Bustos in the 17th District in Western Illinois.

All five have Democratic primaries of varying degrees of difficulty, and the winners of four of those races will go against incumbent Republicans in November. Durbin has not chosen sides in the Second District, in Chicago and the South Suburbs, where U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. (D-Chicago) is being challenged by former Rep. Debbie Halvorson. “I’ve not been asked and I don’t plan on getting involved in that,” he said.
