A 42-year-old man from Evansville, Indiana has been identified as the man who apparently drowned in the Mississippi River near Hartford on Monday. The Madison county Coroner says Todd E. Brooks was visiting relatives in the area when he died. Evansville is located in Randolph County, about an hour south of the Riverbend.
A fishing buddy of Brooks’ called law enforcement just before 9am Monday when he couldn’t find Brooks, although his truck and fishing gear were in place. Brooks was found via sonar submerged in water below a spillway in the Cahokia Creek Diversion Canal. Team Watters Sonar Search and Recovery assisted the IDNR and the Hartford Police and Fire Departments in the search. He was pronounced dead at 12:17pm.
