The driver killed in a fatal wreck in Alton Sunday had apparently been involved in another accident just moments before the one that killed her.  27-year-old Christina Martinez of the 2,700 block of North 41st Street in Fairmont City was pronounced dead at the scene on Broadway at the Con-Agra plant just before 6pm.  Just before her fatal wreck, the Madison County Sheriff’s Department says she was involved in a hit-and-run at the Great River Road and Clifton Terrace Road.

Witnesses report Martinez was driving about 100 miles per hour eastbound on the Great River Road when she clipped another car at the Clifton Terrace intersection and kept going.  The driver of the second vehicle complained of a sore neck, but refused treatment.  Minutes later, witnesses say she lost control of her SUV entering Downtown Alton, hit the Con Agra grain elevator, and bounced back into traffic.  The Madison County Coroner reports she died of head and chest trauma, and routine toxicological testing is being performed.  She was the lone occupant of the vehicle, and was not wearing a seatbelt.
