The driver who crossed the center-line in a head-on crash last week in Jersey County has been charged.  Investigators with the Illinois State Police have charged 60-year-old Ralph Baahlmann with improper lane usage and failure to wear a seat belt.  Baahlmann is the former Madison County Coroner.

According to the Illinois State Police, Baahlmann was the driver of a 2007 Lexus was traveling southbound on U.S. 67 when the vehicle crossed the centerline and ran head-on into a northbound Peterbilt truck.  The accident happened about 300 feet south of Stagecoach Road, which is just north of Delhi.  Baahlmann suffered serious injuries, and was was airlifted to Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.  The driver of the Peterbilt was not charged or injured.
