An Alton man is facing DUI charges after he allegedly struck a police detective’s car near the Alton Police station last week.  43 year old Craig Burnett of the 2700 block of Residence Street was charged Monday with driving under the influence and aggravated battery of a police officer.

Authorities say Burnett ran a red light at the Belchick Memorial Expressway and Broadway, striking the unmarked police car as it was pulling out from the police department parking lot onto Broadway.  Alton Police Detective Joseph Splittorf suffered minor injuries, while an officer in the passenger seat was not injured.  Burnett was not injured, but he allegedly pushed another police officer who was on the scene after the accident, prompting the charge of aggravated battery.
