If you plan to visit Hayner Library in Downtown Alton, you will need to alter your schedule for a few weeks. After more than 30 years, the carpeting will be replaced, which will lead to the closing of the facility from Thursday, October 24 through Tuesday, November 5. The main floor will be entirely re-carpeted during the period, so the decision was made after taking into consideration the needs of work crews and the safety of library patrons.
Hayner Executive Director Bernadette Duvernoy says you will be able to do your library business at the Alton Square Mall location during the shutdown.
She says moving the books, furniture, computers and some of the shelving that is not permanently attached is a major undertaking. The library is scheduled to reopen November 6.
