Downtown Alton merchants and shoppers are looking forward to the completion of the 3rd Street repaving project. The work has gone a bit slower than originally expected, in part due to a broken part on a roto-milling machine that was in use earlier this month, and in part due to a mechanical issue at the asphalt plant.

Public Works Director Brad Cunningham says they are now in the final phase of the project:

Cunningham comments

The plan is to be finished in time for Saturday night's block party, and Cunningham thinks that will be the case.  He says in addition to this project, the area's asphalt supply is being tapped by IDOT projects on Route 140 between Alton and Bethalto, and the continuation of the Illinois 255 project.
