A 43-year-old St. Louis man in Alton to allegedly deliver phone books found himself on the wrong end of a foot chase recently. Police say Tommie S. Hughes (pictured) stole a donation jar intended to raise money for the Backstoppers organization. He was chased down and arrested after his alleged misdeed at the Zephyr Gas Station on Broadway last Friday.
When recovered, the donation jar contained just a little more than $31. Hughes is charged with felony Theft Under $500, due to a previous arrest record. He was transferred to the Madison County Jail, held on $15,000 bond.
