It’s Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and the Alton Police Department is hosting an event this afternoon to draw attention to the issue. At 5:30pm, crowds will gather at the Liberty Bank Alton Amphitheater for the city’s second annual Domestic Violence Awareness Walk.
Alton Police Public Information Officer Emily Hejna tells The Big Z you will wind up doing about a mile of downhill walking.

Hejna says last year’s inaugural event drew about 200 walkers. Proceeds raised go to support the Oasis Women’s Center. The cost to participate is $10.
