You have to watch out for even the friendliest dogs, as they will bite if they feel threatened. Ameren Illinois is asking for your help in creating a safer environment for both pets and employees by employing some common sense tips if utility workers will be on or near your property.

Karen Boulanger, Director of Safety for Ameren Illinois tells The Big Z there have been five dog encounters this year, with two requiring medical treatment.  There have been 40 incidents in the past five years.

Ameren Illinois employees must enter customers' yards to work on natural gas or electric service equipment so they are asking that you put a "beware of dog" sign up even if you have a dog that has never been in trouble before. They ask that you never leash a pet to any utility equipment, which includes meters, poles, and guide wire. For more information, click on the link:
