The effort to establish a dog park in Alton is just about complete, but a delay will postpone the opening for a couple more weeks. The Russell Commons site in Alton will offer ample space for its members, and the fence has been installed. The new target is to have a grand opening celebration June 22.
Alton Public Works Director Bob Barnhart says there are still a couple of things that need to be done before the grand opening, including the installation of the punch pad and key system.

Russell Commons became the park of choice because much of the needed infrastructure is already in place. There will be separate areas for different sized dogs, as well as an area where dogs can have some one-on-one time as they become acclimated to larger crowds.
