A dog park in Alton should be open this summer. Supporters believe the site at the Russell Commons Park near the riverfront will offer ample space for its members, and the fencing was recently installed. There will be separate areas for different sized dogs, as well as an area where dogs can have some one-on-one time as they become acclimated to larger crowds.
Jackie Spiker, owner of Club Paws in Alton and a long-time volunteer on the project, says this will be a big park.

Russell Commons became the park of choice because much of the needed infrastructure is already in place. Some signs explaining park rules and a gated keypad still need to be installed before the park is ready to go. Spiker says the park should open in early June.
