Planned renovations for Alton North Elementary School are a step closer to becoming a reality following the Alton School Board's approval of more than $1.2-million in bids Tuesday night. The accepted bids cover select demolition, the creation of walls and dry wall work, painting, the installation of new flooring and electrical and plumbing work as well.
Dave McClintock, Building and Grounds Director for the Alton School District, says the district has been fortunate to have empty school buildings to put students in during the construction and it's actually saving money because construction crews can work during the school year when costs are a little cheaper.
Students from Alton West will finish this school year at Horace Mann and Mark Twain before returning to their renovated school in August. Students from North will spend the 2013-14 school year in those facilities.
