The Alton School District has launched a campaign to raise the $2-million needed to fund the construction of the sports complex behind Alton High School. The Alton Board of Education agreed to fund half of the project in 2012 but the complex will not be finished until the remaining $2-million needed is raised according to Assistant Superintendent Kristie Baumgartner.

The complex will include upgrading the current soccer practice field to a game field with a surrounding 8-lane track, the construction of a varsity baseball facility, two multi-purpose fields that will be used for physical education, soccer, football, and Marching 100 practices, a cross-country course, and a new restroom and concession facility. Baumgartner says the call for donations will not delay the completion of the sports complex, which is expected to ready for play in the fall of 2015.
