Rising Star is a program the state provides to school districts to allow the monitoring of school and district-wide improvement plans. The Alton School District will continue using the program next year following the school board’s approval of school and district-wide indicator reports during last night’s meeting.
Alton School District Assistant Superintendent Kristie Baumgartner describes how the program works.
Baumgartner says the program is like a “GPS for schools” because it keeps them on track and focused on specific goals and indicators.
In other business, board members approved an application for Federal Impact Aid Funds; agreed to a contract for a Supplemental Educational Services Provider; approved a school maintenance grant application and signed off the application for the State Library Per Capita Grant for the 2014 Fiscal Year. Also honored last night was Alton Middle School 7th grader Betsy Papin for organizing a clothing drive to collect dresses that will be provided to students in need for the Middle School Fall Ball.
