After years of discussion a major change could come to fruition in the Southwestern Community School District in the near future. District Superintendent Brad Skertich tells the Big Z district officials began discussing a transition to attendance centers three and a half years ago amid concerns about declining enrollment and general state aid payments. Last week, Skertich presented three options to the Southwestern School Board, with two of them including a shift to attendance centers.

He says the transition would be a big change for the district.

The board tabled a vote on the issue and is seeking additional input from parents in the district according to Skertich. The board will reconvene in a couple weeks to review the options and a final decision is expected to be made sometime in February.
