Financial issues dominated the focus of discussion at the Alton School Board Meeting last night. An audit report was presented with a few numbers highlighted as problem areas in the balance of spending and revenue. The result could be the district landing on a state financial watch list.
Auditor Steve Pembrook of Scheffel Boyle in Alton broke down what kind of financial situation the board is looking at for fiscal year 2015:

There was a late categorical payment that came in July 15th for $1.6 Million from the preceding year acting as reconciliation to the deficit bringing it down to $4 million. However these numbers could put the district on a watch list due to the imbalance of revenue versus expenses. Also at the meeting last night, Director of Financial Services Chris Norman told The Big Z the district plans to meet with the teacher’s union soon:

The two students honored for the Alton Optimist Student of the Month were Audrey Neace for Alton Middle School and Alyssa Eagleton for West Elementary.
