A grisly mystery is the focus of an investigation in central Illinois. The "Herald and Review" in Decatur reports the Macon County Sheriff's office is baffled over the discovery over the weekend of a bloody and severed bear paw. The paw was found by a passer-by along a bike trail in Decatur but officials say there's no sign of the animal it came from.
The paw's been turned over to the Department of Natural Resources. Adding to the mystery, authorities say black bears have not lived anywhere in Illinois since the 18-hundreds.
