The former Great Central Lumber Company may be reborn as a hotel and convention center within two years. The Alton City Council will officially approve an agreement with a developer at its next meeting. The city has long sought a hotel and conference center to accent the development that is already on the riverfront.
Alton Mayor Brant Walker says this is an exciting development.

He says they are looking at a 110-room hotel with a conference center and restaurant. The Orion Group is coming on-board, and the agreement will give them a year to secure financing and start the project.
