A man wanted for kidnapping has been returned to Madison County to face trial. 39 year old Christopher Derleth was brought back from West Virginia where he was arrested by U.S. Marshals a week after he allegedly took his step-daughter and her son from a home near Carpenter.
Derleth waived his right to fight the extradition and as of today (Wed) was listed as an inmate at the Madison County Jail according to Sheriff John Lakin. Derleth is charged with aggravated kidnapping and child abduction after he allegedly removed the 13 year old girl and her then 2 week old son from the home of a guardian on September 17. He was found with the minors in a rural wooded area near Charleston, West Virginia, on September 24 after police had followed his trail through a toll booth and the hits of a credit card. He was found after residents reported seeing him and called police. The children were in good condition and are now back in the area.
