The Bethalto Village Board is moving forward with plans to demolish a derelict building along Route 140. The building located at 408 East Bethalto Boulevard has housed several businesses and been used as apartments in the past but was identified as a safety hazard by village officials after it was abandoned few years ago.

Bethalto Mayor Steve Bryant says this project has been on the books for a number of years and that demolition was delayed several times by the property owner.

Bryant Comments

Bryant says the village is applying for the maximum $100-thousand available through the Madison County Development Block Grant program to fund the demolition; which is scheduled to begin by November.
