The Madison County Democratic Party has selected the groups vice chairman as its new leader. 64 year old Jim Stack of Collinsville will take over for the late Matt Melucci, following his death last month. Stack is the urban planning chief for the Illinois Department of Transportation in District 8, and is a former Navy Seabee. He is also brother of retired circuit Judge Dan Stack.
Stack was selected during a meeting of the Democratic precinct committeemen on Wednesday in Edwardsville at the county courthouse. He says he'll step down from his post at chairman of the Collinsville Township democrats, and one of his first duties will be to help select a candidate for the 12th District Congressional race. Party leaders will be deciding soon who will replace Brad Harrimon who dropped out of the race over health concerns. The Democratic candidate will face Republican Jason Plummer in November.
