School board members in Alton continued to deal with the problems caused by the state's financial issues last night by adopting a deficit reduction plan. District Director of Financial Services Chris Norman said the adoption of the plan was a mere formality after late state payments and a change in title reimbursement affected the district's audit from the last fiscal year.
Norman also presented a preliminary tax levy to board members last night. He said that the numbers included in that estimate, should not reflect a substantial tax increase. Norman will give a detailed presentation of the district's tax levy at a truth and taxation hearing next month.
In other business, board members also approved a sanitary and storm sewer and construction easement to the City of Alton at Alton Middle School. That easement will allow the city to maintain the lines that run from Judson to Amelia behind the Middle School at no cost the district.
