The first weekend of firearm deer hunting in Illinois was a fruitful one for hunters around the state, and there's more good weather forecast for the second weekend, which is currently underway. Over 72,000 deer were harvested two weeks ago. Pike County led the state in numbers, as is usually the case.
State Department of Natural Resources spokesperson Tim Schweitzer says the total harvest last year was 181,000, while the all-time record is just over 200,000 deer.
There are several more opportunities for firearm deer hunting this year, including the three-day Muzzleloader-only Deer Season from December 7th through 9th.
