The Madison County Sheriff's Department is investigating a vehicle fire in Godfrey that resulted in the discovery of a body. The call to 9-1-1 came in just after noon today (Friday), and emergency responders were on the scene shortly after, according to Captain Mike Dixon with the Madison County Sheriff's Department.
The fire was quickly doused, but a search of the vehicle showed it was occupied.
Dixon says they have not made a positive identification, and it may take more than just a visual exam for identification purposes. He says the fire appears to have been contained to the passenger compartment of the vehicle. The Sheriff's Department is being assisted in its investigation by the Madison County Coroner's Office and the Illinois State Fire Marshall's Office.
