The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services is undoing layoff plans for 375 workers, as lawmakers have given the department hope to restore money cut from the budget.  “We’re looking forward to the Veto Session,” says Dave Clarkin, a spokesman for DCFS. “From both sides (of the aisle) and both chambers, people have expressed support for this approach. We have a primary responsibility to keep children safe. That’s what they’re committed to, and we’re all working together to figure out the best way to do that.”

Clarkin says the reorganization announced this week “maintains our focus on protecting children and strengthening families, allows us to move a number of our employees out of middle management and into frontline positions; we’ll be increasing our number of investigators by 138.”
