Like hundreds of millions of other people in the nation, Riverbend residents will be rolling their clocks back an hour this weekend, as Daylight Saving Time officially ends at 2am Sunday.  Daylight is already in short supply at the end of the day, and the time change means day will become night an hour earlier each evening until next spring when DST returns. 

Godfrey Fire Fire Protection District Chief Eric Kambarian tells The Big Z this weekend is a good time to change the batteries in your smoke alarms, even if they are hard-wired to the electrical circuitry in your home.

Recent statistics indicate more than a third of all fatal fires happen in homes without working smoke alarms.
