An Illinois congressman wants to promote peace in the Middle East, and he wants the U.S. to be involved in the Ukraine only if any Americans are among the victims of the missile attack on a Malaysian commercial airplane.
“Israel deserves to protect its citizens and its borders,” said U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis (R-Taylorville) to reporters in Springfield today (Friday), “and we need to ensure that we engage diplomatically with those countries around Israel, like Egypt and Jordan.”

As for the deadly attack on the airliner Thursday, “It’ll be interesting to find out what the final number is,” Davis said. “If an American was on board that plane, we in America have a vested interest. I’m not for sending any ground troops to any of the tinderboxes here in the world right now. What we need to do is have the State Department and this administration take a much more serious approach toward foreign affairs that I haven’t seen out of this administration in the past.”
