Sending U.S. ground troops to fight ISIS militants should be an option, according to one Illinois congressman. Hawkish is not a word U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis (R-Taylorville) would use to describe himself, but he considers the acts committed by ISIS to be so heinous that the U.S. needs to take whatever action necessary to battle the group, up to and including sending ground troops back into Iraq.
“I’m OK with putting American forces on the ground to ensure that we eradicate this group so they cannot continue to grow, and they cannot become a pseudo nation-state,” Davis said.

While President Obama has asked Congress to authorize military action against ISIS, Davis says that authorization limits what Obama can do compared to earlier approvals for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Davis claims Obama is only limiting the scope of the military authorization to please political concerns within the Democratic Party.
