Pride Incorporated has set a date for the official unveiling of the Miles Davis Memorial Project. Artist Preston Jackson is currently working on the bronze statue of the jazz great to be placed along West Third Street at Belle Street in downtown Alton, and the city is working on the plaza.

Hope says she anticipates music, food and drink to be a part of the celebration, but no start time has been announced for the September 12th event. Miles Davis was born in Alton in May of 1926, and moved to East St. Louis where he developed his love for music and went on to influence musicians around the world. The Miles Davis Memorial Project committee has spent the last few years raising money for the statue and a memorial plaza in Davis’ memory.
