The Heat Advisory has been with upgraded to an Excessive Heat Warning, with triple-digit highs still in the forecast through much of the coming week. It is the extended periods of oppressive heat that wear down your body, and the cumulitive effect can be deadly in some cases. Local health officials urge the public to take precautions and check on elderly friends and neighbors.

John Peipert, Director of Emergency Services at St. Anthony's Hospital in Alton, says you need to pay attention to your body, don’t over do it, and keep an eye on the elderly. Plus, keep drinking water handy.

Peipert comments
