While not everyone in Alton is sold on the idea of turning the former Great Central Lumber Company into a hotel and conference center, the Alton Regional Convention and Visitor’s Bureau is.  The organization’s 20 member board recently gave a unanimous endorsement to the plan, and shared that at a recent Alton City Council meeting.

CVB President Brett Stawar says he is aware of the organized opposition, but thinks their perception of the plan is much worse than the reality.  But he says the developer has been advised to work within a set of guidelines.
