As a downtown Alton hotel continues to inch closer to reality, the head of the Alton Regional Convention and Visitor’s Bureau is looking forward to the additional opportunities such a facility will bring to the city. The hotel is slated for the former property of Great Central Lumber near the Alton Marina. CVB President Brett Stawar says the proposed 100-plus rooms will be an asset in the booking of larger events in the city.

The city council is expected to approve an agreement with a prospective developer at its meeting this week. If all goes well, the new hotel and conference center could be open for business within two years, according to Alton Mayor Brant Walker.
