Illinois enjoyed a warm, wet week. Of course, if you are a farmer who wanted to get into the field spraying or planting or both, “enjoyed” is not the correct word. USDA crop statistician Mark Schleusener says about three-quarters of the corn and soybean crops are in good or excellent condition.

“It was a little spotty,” Schleusener says of the rainfall over Illinois. “In West and Central (Illinois last week), the average rainfall was over three inches. In the southern part of the state, rainfall less than two; in the northern part of the state, generally one or perhaps 1½ inches.”
