Alton Police are investigating the robbery of the Laclede Community Credit Union in North Alton Thursday afternoon. A lone male suspect walked into the banking center just after 2:30pm, demanded money, and then fled on foot. The suspect escaped with an undetermined amount of cash and while he did not display a weapon, police say he implied that he was armed. No one was injured.
There were about a half dozen employees, and three customers in the credit union at the time of the hold up. Police officers responded to the robbery call within minutes and began a search of the surrounding area. A canine officer and police dog were also called in to assist in the search, but the suspect remains on the loose. Authorities described the suspect as a black male, about 6 feet tall with a thin build, wearing dark colored athletic style pants, a white shirt, a white hat, and dark sunglasses. He was last seen running across the rear parking lot of the business toward Tibbitt Street.
