A fatal accident on Saturday has claimed the life of two women from Wood River who were sisters. 84 year old Eleanor Kohlmiller and 77 year old Shelby Kibler were in a vehicle that ran off the road while traveling on Highway 159 near Route 140. They both died of their injuries on Sunday at hospitals in St. Louis.
Illinois State Police report the car was heading south on 159 about a mile north of Route 140 when it left the roadway around 4:30pm Saturday. Both women were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. Kibler died from her injuries early Sunday morning after being taken to St. Louis University Hospital. Her sister was airlifted to Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, but she died later on Sunday morning. A joint funeral visitation is Wednesday from 4-8pm at Marks Mortuary in Wood River.
