A lawsuit against the former Madison County Sheriff has been settled.  The Madison County Board signed off yesterday on the settlement reached in a lawsuit by former sheriff’s department employee Jaimie Linton against former Madison County Sheriff Robert Hertz alleging sexual harassment.

The case was heard last week in a Settlement Conference in U.S. District Court in Benton.  The settlement total is listed as $42,500 as the Sheriff’s Department, and Madison County were also named in the 2013 suit.  Linton claimed while Hertz was sheriff, he harassed and bullied her over a period of a year and a half, threatened to have a private investigator follow her, claimed she was having an affair, and threatened her job.  Hertz denied the allegations.  The settlement in the case does not admit any wrongdoing.  Linton transferred to the Probation and Court Services Department in 2013 and remains employed with the county.  Hertz lost the Democratic primary last spring to current Sheriff John Lakin and Hertz’s term ended in December.
